Road to the Emmys: Broadway's guest-star generator
Kicking off the countdown phase of Variety Road to the Emmys preview coverage, the focus goes to the guest stars, and in particular the relationship between the theater world and TV, as well as the shows that seem to attract the biggest names.
"Brooke Kennedy, our executive producer in New York, and the production team have made really great efforts to accommodate people with difficult theater schedules," Michelle King told Paula Hendrickson for Variety. "When actors are so tremendous, sometimes one has to work a little harder to make sure they can be on the show, and production has been fantastic about that."
In addition, Variety breaks down the nominees for the comedy and drama guest star kudos.

A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
