GKIDS animation showcase spotlights Oscar contenders
Six potential animated Oscar nominees — four for this year's awards, two for the year after — will screen at the GKIDS Animated Showcase Nov. 14-18. This will be the first time the six new films have played in Los Angeles, with two making their U.S. debut.

To qualify for the Oscars, animated film entries face a Nov. 1 submissions deadline with the film academy.


A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
