New Oscar host Seth MacFarlane: How does he look on camera?

Newly announced Oscar host Seth MacFarlane wasn't exactly plucked from obscurity, but given that he is, as I've said in Variety, "arguably the least-known face to stand alone as the kudofest's emcee in its televised history," here's an introduction to his on-camera persona for the uninitiated.

Let's start with this video released today that offers a hint of what his Oscar sensibility — or at least Oscar-promotional sensibility — might be.

And here is MacFarlane hosting September's season premiere of "Saturday Night Live." His opening monologue definitely played to fans of "Family Guy," before he shifted into song.
