Unconventional characters, stories in Golden Globes races

SyAs the Dec. 13 Golden Globes nomination announcement draws closer, here are some more stories tied to the contenders:

• Caregivers – especially those unexpectedly thrust into service – were a trend in this year's films

• So were unconventional explorations of marriage.

• Here are some of the leading foreign candidates for Golden Globes that might attract the attention of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.  

• And in the TV world, the big four broadcast nets are trying to reverse their fortunes in drama after being shut out at the Emmys.
