In case you missed 'ems: BIFAs and EFAs edition

Been too long since I've done one of these, so let's catch up ...

-- Rufus Norris' "Broken" (above), starring Tim Roth, topped all projects for noms from the British Independent Film Awards with nine. Ben Wheatley's "Sightseers" and Peter Strickland's "Berberian Sound Studio" each had seven noms, Bart Layton's "The Imposter" six and John Madden's "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" five. Each of the aforementioned projects were nommed for film and director.

The actress category is interesting, with Alice Lowe ("Sightseers"), Andrea Riseborough ("Shadow Dancer"), Elle Fanning ("Ginger and Rosa"), Judi Dench ("The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel") and Meryl Streep ("The Iron Lady") for actress.

-- Michael Haneke's "Amour" led all comers at the European Film Awards nominations with six. Steve McQueen's "Shame," which contended for awards in the U.S. a year ago, received five noms.

-- Alan Cumming will host the Britannia Awards on Wednesday. Cumming is getting a big PR awards push for his work in feature film "Any Day Now."

-- J.J. Abrams will receive the 2013 Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television from the Producers Guild at the PGA Awards on Jan. 26.

-- At the Feb. 10 Annual American Society of Cinematographers kudos, Dean Semler will receive the lifetime achievement award. In addition, Rodney Charters will get the TV career achievement award, Robby Muller the international achievement award and Curtis Clark the President's Award.

-- "Argo," "Luck" and "Hitchcock" were among the honorees at the 2012 California On Location Awards.

-- Lorraine Levy won director and grand prize honors at the Tokyo Film Festival with "The Other Son."

-- "Beasts of the Southern Wild" won grand prize honors at the Mumbai Film Festival. Not only that, butthe film's Dwight Henry won actor kudos.

-- "Beasts" is also competing with four documentaries for the audience kudo at the 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards

-- Screenwriter Billy Ray ("The Hunger Games," "Shattered Glass") will deliver the keynote address at the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting ceremony Thursday at the Beverly Wilshire.

-- The 33rd London Critics' Circle Awards will take place on Jan. 20.

-- The Dec. 7 IDA Documentary Awards have announced additional honors:
1) John Shenk's "The Islapnd President" will get the Pare Lorentz Award recognizing "a film that demonstrates exemplary filmmaking while focusing on the appropriate use of the natural environment, justice for all and the illumination of pressing social problems."
2) David France ("How To Survive a Plague") will get the 2012 Jacqueline Donnet Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award.
3) The IDA Creative Recognition Awards will go to Peter Gerdehag's "Women with Cows" for cinematography, Rodney Ascher's "Room 237" for editing, Keith Patterson-scripted "Ann Richards' Texas" for writing, and for music, "Searching for Sugar Man" with origonal songs by Sixto Rodriguez and  additional score by director Malik Bendjelloul.
