Andy Samberg to host Indie Spirit Awards

SambergFormer "Saturday Night Live" vet Andy Samberg has been named to host the Film Independent Spirit Awards, set for Feb. 23 in Santa Monica and broadcast on delay that evening on IFC.

“Andy Samberg is an amazing comedian, just as offbeat as IFC,” IFC prexy and g.m. Jennifer Caserta said. “We’re thrilled that he’s hosting this year’s Spirit Awards. This is a real treat for our viewers.”

Samberg, who co-starred in "Celeste and Jesse Forever," hosted the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, which was the highest-rated version of that show since 2004.

His former "SNL" colleagues Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are co-hosting the Golden Globes on Jan. 13.
