Daytime Emmys add categories, near TV deal

The Daytime Emmys are adding categories for culinary host, travel program and preschool animated program as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences opens submissions for the annual kudos.

"It is the 40th anniversary of the Daytime Emmys contest," NATAS chairman Malachy Wienges said, "and there will be many surprises with both the telecast and the Creative Arts Ceremony. The broadcast dates and partners will be announced in the near future."

One category has been eliminated from the Daytime Emmys: outstanding commercial.

About

Christy GroszA native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
