-- The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking announced the five nominees for its third-annual Cinema Eye Heterodox Award, "honoring a narrative film that imaginatively incorporates nonfiction strategies, content and/or modes of production." The nominees are "Ceasar Must Die," "Compliance," "Museum Hours," "No" and "An Oversimplification of Her Beuaty." The previous winner was "Beginners." The award will be presented at the Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking on Jan. 9.
-- Helen Mirren is the latest gala honoree to be selected by the Palm Springs International Film Festival.-- Amy Adams will receive the Cinema Vanguard Award on Jan. 31 at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.


A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
