-- Tied to today's release of "The Impossible," which comes nearly eight years to the day after the Indian Ocean tsunami that is the linchpin of the story, are call-to-action public service initiatives stemming from the Tsunami Plus 10 Project.

-- The Cinema Eye will give Chris Hegedus-D. A. Pennebaker 1993 documentary "The War Room" its 2013 Legacy Award on Jan. 9 at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York.

-- "Argo" director Ben Affleck will receive the Humanitarian Award from Cinema for Peace its gala Jan. 11 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

-- "This Is 40" director Judd Apatow will receive the Louis XIII Genius Award at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards ceremony Jan. 10 in Santa Monica.

-- "Saturday Night Live" guru Lorne Michaels will be among the kudo recipients at the Feb. 19 Costume Designers Guild Awards, along with Anne Hathaway and career-achievement honorees Judianna Makovsky and Eduardo Castro. Michaels will receive the Distinguished Collaborator Award.
