Makeup and hairstyling shortlist revealed
"Hitchcock," "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "Les Miserables," "Lincoln," "Looper," "Men in Black 3" and "Snow White and the Huntsman" are the finalists for the makeup and hairstyling Oscar. Timothy M. Gray filed the news:
... On Jan. 5, all members of the Acad's makeup artists and hairstylists branch are invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.
Among the contenders that didn't make the list are "Cloud Atlas," "The Dark Knight Rises," "Marvel's The Avengers," "Prometheus" and "Skyfall." ...
AMPAS renamed the makeup category in June to include hairstyling.
A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
