Latest MacFarlane promo for Oscars tries 'Psycho' gag
We'll ignore the fact that "Psycho" didn't even win any Oscars ...
I'm honestly not sure that it's worth posting these promos at The Vote. I don't think ads are particularly indicative of how good – or bad – a kudocast will be. In fact, part of me wonders if the mundane quality of some of these promos is a subversive way to manage expectations.
On the other hand, it's interesting that there seems to be a running theme in this year's promotion of MacFarlane hosting the Oscars that he doesn't intend to take them that seriously. That's a double-edged sword, and one that's great if you can pull it off with the right tone, not so great otherwise.

A native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
