American stars packing for BAFTAs

BAFTA
For some reason, I'm just not generally moved by announcements of who will be presenting at awards ceremonies.  I guess I just feel, especially at the Oscars, that they'll get some good people and we'll see them at they see them. However, for the record, here's the latest Academy update: “The Avengers” stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will all be at the Dolby Theater on Feb. 24 for the Oscars.

But here's one announcement that's actually a bit more interesting to me — who's going to make the trip from the U.S. to attend Sunday's BAFTA Awards in London. Here's the list of what BAFTA calls confirmed attendees and presenters — I'll leave it to you to figure out who has the longest commute.

Nominees confirmed to date include (in alphabetical order by first name): Alicia Vikander, Amy Adams, Andrea Riseborough, Ang Lee, Anne Hathaway, Barbara Broccoli, Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Christoph Waltz, Dame Judi Dench, Daniel Day-Lewis, Elizabeth Olsen, Eric Fellner, George Clooney, Dame Helen Mirren, Hugh Jackman, Javier Bardem, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Joaquin Phoenix, Juno Temple, Marion Cotillard, Michael G. Wilson, Quentin Tarantino, Sally Field, Sam Mendes, Steven Spielberg, Suraj Sharma, Tim Bevan, Tim Burton, and Tom Hooper.

Sir Alan Parker, recipient of the BAFTA Fellowship, and Tessa Ross, recipient of the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award, will also be in attendance.

Presenters and other attendees confirmed to date include (in alphabetical order): Alice Eve, Ben Whishaw, Billy Connolly, Chris Tucker, Danny Boyle, David Morrissey, Eddie Redmayne, Gemma Arterton, Helen McCrory, Henry Cavill, Sir Ian McKellen, Jennifer Garner, Jeremy Irvine, Jeremy Renner, John C. Reilly, Kevin Spacey, Mark Strong, Martin Freeman, Meryl Streep, Nicholas Hoult, Olga Kurylenko, Paloma Faith, Rafe Spall, Samuel L. Jackson, Saoirse Ronan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sarah Silverman, Simon Pegg, and Tom Hiddleston.

About

Christy GroszA native of Los Angeles raised by two parents and "Hill Street Blues," Jon Weisman ankled his scriptwriting career and began working for Variety in 2004, subsequently serving as associate editor of features and television reporter before becoming awards editor. He promises not to use this platform to retroactively campaign for Oscars for “The Misfits,” though he’d feel justified in doing so.
