National Board of Review Names No Country for Old Men Best Film
The National Board of Review, which is not necessarily predictive but does add early momentum to movies in the award season derby, has named the Coen brothers' No Country for Old Men as best film. I'm stunned by Marion Cotillard's non-win here in the Best Actress category. Losing to Julie Christie, who was in the running but not really a lock. But she may be now...I think the only thing these awards really hurt may be Mlle. Cotillard's chances of a free-dash to the end...
And the exclusion of Cate Blanchett anywhere is telling us something I think...
And of course, there's FAR too many Warner Bros. winners to give these awards whatever faint shred of crediblity they have left...Sad to say...
But they do give "No Country For Old Men" and esp. "Sweeney" the momentum they BOTH needed...
In a now crowded Best Actress race is Helena Bonham Carter even going to get in? Is Marion Cotillard?
Well, it makes it all interesting.

Stephen, we need to go to a 10 nom, 2 award system. And the first Award goes to me, speech by me, and the second Award goes to you, speech by you. Less filler, more stars and movies.
