No Country for Old Men Beats Coens' Top-Grosser
As No Country for Old Men heads for its inevitable good showing on Oscar noms morning January 22, the adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel has crossed the $45.55 million mark, making it the highest-grossing Coen Brothers film ever, surpassing Disney's O Brother, Where Art Thou?'s gross of $45,506,619.
Partners Miramax (domestic) and Paramount Vantage (foreign) opened No Country For Old Men in November 2007 after launching it at Cannes in May, followed by Toronto and the NYFF in the fall. Good press and buzz built as the movie opened in November and slowly expanded from its initial platform release. The movie has grabbed plenty of critics' ten-best and critics groups kudos as well as four Golden Globe noms, three SAG noms and WGA and DGA noms for the Coens.
No Country For Old Men will continue to widen on January 18.
