Sean Connery Approves of That Blond Chap
(Posted by Peter Debruge)
And while we're on the subject of Bond, here's a shout-out to another Variety contributor, Matt Hurwitz, who interviews the reclusive Sean Connery for United's Hemispheres magazine.
Connery gives Casino Royale's director and star his seal of approval ("my advice to Daniel Craig would be, 'If you’re going to do another one, do it with Martin Campbell, because it was a marvelous movie'"), but confesses, "I did have one reservation—they sort of diluted the Bond musical theme, which you hear only at the very end. When I heard it, I thought, 'Oh, that’s what I’ve been missing.' That theme gives the audience a direct connection to Bond—it’s an instant recognition, and they went a very different way in that film."
