Cannes Watch: Blindness, Synecdoche, New York, Che, Two Lovers
Four much-anticipated Cannes pics are opener Blindness, an indie Fernando Meirelles drama acquired by Miramax, and three pics which distribs are hovering over: Steven Soderbergh's epic Che double feature, Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut Synecdoche, New York, and James Gray's Two Lovers. Rope of Silicon has early Cannes stills.
UK newspaper The Independent deplores the decline of the world's leading film fest. And The Guardian lays out the directors in the race for the Palme d'Or.

Very bizarre piece by Mr. McNab, a normally rational, coherent fellow.
Here, he reminds me of a particularly loquacious speedfreak who used to hang out at a liquor store on Route 66.
The words are all ones you'd find in Webster's dictionary, but without some effing order they make no effing sense whatsoever.
Yes, Cannes is a festival.
Yes, there is a market.
But your point about Ewan Macgregor in the swimming pool ten years ago was...?
Or was it Danny Boyle in the swimming pool?
Who was on the jet?
But, what's that...there's a market selling auditorium seating!?
And the world of art cinema doesn't make as much as the blockbusters????!!!
Yes?? Of course..., but?
Yesss???
Never mind, here's a dollar, don't snort it all up in one go....
