Twilight Takes Harry Potter Slot on November 21
Summit Entertainment co-chairman and CEO Rob Friedman knows how to play the distribution game. So when he saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince move off the November 21 date to next summer, he jumped on the chance to move his vampire romantic thriller Twilight onto that date.
Here's the story.
Twilight fans will be thrilled to be able to see the pic three weeks earlier. Buzz has been building for months and reached a crescendo at July's Comic-Con, when young girls screamed for Brit star Robert Pattinson, and in August, when the fourth Stephenie Meyer novel Breaking Dawn hit bookstores and broke sales records. The comparison between Meyer and J. K. Rowling and her passionate followers has often been made.
UPDATE: I don't buy the theory that Warners wanted to move Harry Potter because Twilight would impact it. Believe me, a major studio like WB isn't worrying about a low-budget movie without stars from an upstart distrib like Summit--even if they should be. It was about filling out their summer sked, which was thin because of the Writer's Strike.

I am so excited. Cant wait to see Pattinson's performance. Someone said it was like seeing a new matinee idol being born like Rudolph Valentino or Errol Flynn and I must admit I'm that excited by Rob. I'm too old to be a screaming fangirl but I seem to be trying my best lately.

In an earlier article you mention that Angelina Jolie can be tough, sexy, lethal, funny and heartbreaking. This struck a chord with me as I think Rob Pattinson has the same qualities from what I've seen of his performances to date. I think he could definately be the male equivalent in Hollywood.

Snaps for Summit. A very smart move in my opinion. And the positive response is very heartening. And it also means that they (Catherine and the cast, etc...) can get started immediately after the release of Twilight on the pre-production of New Moon...
The three week jump to November also means we get to see Robert Pattinson in this role that much sooner! I'm very excited to see the final result of his characterization of this role........Plus, with Twilight moving up, it will give his other films, How To Be and Little Ashes a better jumping off point to get their films a wider release. (I'm actually a bit more excited to see the latter two films, than I am about Twilight.)
However all three of these films will not disappoint any of us who are floored by the talent this actor possesses. I'm looking forward to everything his career brings him. I know nothing short of greatness will come his way!
Thanks Anne!

Summit is smart for this move, they are capitalizing on those wanting to see a movie on their holidays and it will keep the hype that surrounds Twilight fresh and growing. I can't wait to see Robert Pattinson's take on Edward, he is so talented I am sure he will do it justice! In Twilight and his upcoming other films of Little Ashes and How To Be he is sure to surprise the people who are currently on the fence with him, I have no doubt he will be excellent!
