Debating Superman

Supermanrfx021

Brett Ratner is talking to everybody these days. He speculates about what his and J.J. Abrams Superman would have been. And he's working on the Eddie Murphy Beverly Hills Cop sequel.

Meanwhile, fans of Bryan Singer's Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh (wait until they see Zack and Miri Make a Porno) are up in arms over Warners' plans to take a different direction with the franchise. "Clark Kent" sent this memo to the media and Warners execs:

Ratnerdscn1731

This letter is being sent on behalf of the group of Superman fans who were appalled by the article on the Wall Street Journal (Aug.22,08) reporting that Warner Bros. was planning a new Superman film to 'reintroduce' the movie franchise, thus implying that there will not be a sequel to our beloved "Superman Returns", and possibly, the casting of another actor to replace Brandon Routh, who was widely approved and applauded by many fans and film critics across the world, regardless of their view on the film itself.

This news has caused a great many heated discussion among Superman fans all over the world, most typically on fan site forums and messageboards of various film-related media on the internet.

On August 26th of this year, a small group of Superman/Brandon Routh fans at Brandon Routh.com and BlueTights Network, one of the most renowned Superman sites in the world, started the campaign to express our dissatisfaction of WB's alleged 'new strategy' and to demand them to recast Brandon Routh as Superman in the future film again. Clairecheaux, one of the most respected members of the forum, has named this as the: "BRB! - Bring Routh Back!" campaign.

As soon as the campaign started, it attracted huge amounts of attention by many fans who shared our view, both from the existing members of the forum and a lot more from outside, who came to sign for our petition and to support our cause. The fact that more than 100 signatures were collected from the supporters within the first 24 hours is testament to the strong emotion amoongst the community towards this cause. Since then, the number of supporters has been steadily growing and we have now exceeded 300 supporters as of September 14th, at the ratio of 2:1 = male supporters : female supporters. from 25 countries across the globe, ranging from young fans in their teens to the people in their 60's who have been passionate and loyal fans of Superman for more than 40 years.

I support Brandon.

[Misha]
I support Brandon too.

[Brandon Fan Forever]
BRB all the way.

[absoluteimpt]
EVERYONE knows how I feel......and who I support. I'm so up in arms over this that I find it most difficult to articulate my feelings without sounding like a flubbering fool. So yeah.....
And IF this is the end and Brandon will never don the tights again - I beseech all the vapid buttheads to STFU and leave us to mourn our loss in peace.
BRANDON IS SUPERMAN – BRING HIM BACK!

[janerationx]
I'm not saying this is the end for Brandon as Supes until I hear otherwise. I'm not even going to thank him yet, because I have already thanked him many times before, and if I do this time, it feels more like saying goodbye, and I'm not ready for that yet. Since there seems to be a big possibility that Brandon may not be back then I am all up for supporting him to come back and wear the suit for us again. Thanks Claire for taking your time to do this.

[tempest]
I started writing something to post here, but then realised I was almost duplicating, in much inferior English, what Claire said already , so let me just say, "Everything what Claire said. "
BRING ROUTH BACK!!

[supercam7]
To Whom it May Concern...

I'm not sure whether this is the correct place to say this but whoever receives this please forward it to the person you know needs to read this...Thank you!

It has come to my attention through the various fan related sites that Warners intend darking the greatest Super hero to the likes of Batman. I urge you to WAKE UP! from whatever dream world you're in and truly take the time and listen to what the fan's following of Superman are saying especially with regards to Brandon Routh! Brandon is in my own opinon is the closest you'll ever get to seeing what Supes looks like in the flesh more so than the late Christopher Reeves of whom I'm a great fan of and respected so much. I implore you not to do away with what Superman Returns has re-established but just to move it on into a high-impact, epic action movie. Everyone loved the cast of SR, please keep them all especially Brandon, this poor man had such an unbelievlbly BIG PAIR OF BOOTS if you will, to fill and without a shadow of doubt he did much more than that, he gave hope to thousands upon thousands of fans that Superman lives and has flown again! And just to understand what i'm saying to you is in fact true, do yourselves a favour and just watch the comic-con trailer which Brian Singer show to the fans for a possible follow up and listen to the cheers and screams, in short the peoples reactions to it.
Thank you for listening.
Cameron.

We Love You Brandon! You're Coming Back...leave It To Us!! :-)

[Paul Andreas]
Routh renewed my interest and passion for the character. He embodies the values I have always associated with Superman both on and off the screen. I will not watch a new Superman movie without him, as he truly has become, like Reeve before him, the face of the character for his generation.

[Barney Tabasco]
Continue with Routh, Singer and everyone (well, new writers). Give us the official Superman Returns sequel - WB, you know it makes sense!

[KYLEMAN]
ditto to Paul Andrea

[Vgerland]
How could WB even dream of finding someone who better fills the roll. Brandon IS MY Superman and the Superman for this generation.
I was an adult when Christopher Reeve made you believe a man could FLY.
Brandon made me believe a man could SOAR.

[sonofkrypton23]
Warner Bros, if you are listening....bring back Brandon! He IS Superman. Fans have waited for over 20 years for you to find a Superman that we can all believe in....and Routh is it. He IS Superman! Not Nic Cage, not Brendon Fraiser...or all of the other actors that were attached to the role before Brandon. The smartest thing you did...and Singer did..was to cast an unknown. And you succeeded in casting Routh. The world believes he is Superman!!
If you want to completely reboot the franchise...fine. If you want to reboot and continue forward elements from "Returns"...fine. But whatever you do, keep Brandon!! The problem with the first movie was NOT Brandon...it was certain story elements and the total lack of REAL action that the Superman character demands. The problem is not Singer, either. We've all seen what he can do with a superhero movie.
Keep Brandon Routh!!!

[Vallado]
Brandon it's our Superman
Keep Brandon

[silvermare forever]
To all of you at Warner Bros. Don't Be Stupid About This! Keep Brandon Routh as Superman, he's the best man for this role and you know it!

[rggkjg1]
brandon routh is clark kent/superman.

warner bros, what happened with batman when you changed the lead actor and director? do i actually need to name the 2 movies? shouldn't you have learned your lesson by now?

[stargazer]
I even started reading the comics thanks to Superman Returns, something I never thought I would do. Brandon makes me believe not only that a man can fly, but also that Superman has a soul. I will not watch a Superman movie without him. It would be an empty experience, no matter how cool or amazing the action could be.

[mzz]
Keep Routh!!! He's the right man for the role, and he IS superman.

[Phillip]
Dear WB,
Although Superman Returns wasn't the tentpole movie your studio was anticipating, it did yield a surprising outcome among most fans. The general concensus among those who loved the film and those who were lukewarm was that Brandon Routh WAS Superman. He embodied the legend, and he did the best with what he was given in terms of script and story. I will be the first to admit that Superman Returns wasn't a great movie. It was a good movie, but not great. Please bring Brandon Routh back for a "reintroduction." It can be done with good writing. Thank you for your time.

[Vivek]
He was the best thing about Superman Returns. WB get Brandon Routh back.

[Rig-El]
I support Brandon. He is my new Superman. With or without Signer, they have to keep him.

[SapGoblin]
Brandon IS the way to go...or you lose out big time on all aspects of Supes including essential recognition for the character, etc. Try a new director if you must (though Bryan was fine- just needs new story), but KEEP Brandon!!!
I bought the 'Ultimate Collector's Edition' set BECAUSE it included Superman Returns...and I bought an import steelbook, and the new re-issued blu-ray...
Discontinue the storyline, but don't kill the character's latest portrayer!

[Uliq]
Keep Brandon, for the love of Rao. And I'll say more: Keep Singer.

[dbreiden83080]
Anyone who knows me on this forum, knows he has my vote for sure. I think it is a tragic mistake what WB is doing. Routh has the potential to be an amazing Superman for years to come.

[Witchylana]
I've been sans computer since mid last week, and I come back to this!?! FFS - BRING BACK BRANDON!!!(Also - is this offical news, or just someone at Warners speaking out of his arse?)

[Lex_Luthor]
Brandon Routh gracefully performed in what were tremendously big red boots to fill. Not only because he was playing such a beloved character, but also because he was playing the Chris Reeve's version of the character. And he did it with charm, brilliance and wit! Whatever happens with this beloved franchise, I hope that Brandon dons the cape and tights once again. He IS Superman!

[brdwaybebe]
Bring. Routh. Back.

[Returns06]
I don't care if the new Superman movie is a reboot, and it would confuse the audience...they've got to cast Routh. There is no live-action Superman but Routh. Not for a long, long time, anyway.

[kallell]

[TippinsUK]
It's not just Brandon's on screen performance, off screen, in interviews etc he just oozed Superman. He has a true passion for the character and what he symbolizes.
I've watched the making of DVD more times than the actual film I think and the guy is just perfect for Superman.
Give him a better direction & story and you may believe a man can fly...but you'll know Routh already does!
BRING ROUTH BACK!!!!!

[xrh74s]
Nothing wrong with Routh. Routh did an excellent job... Singer and the writers was the problem.. And they need to remove the Lex Luther character out (Luther is a "Same-O, Same-O" thing, gone old and boring). Gotta have new foes with more actions, and stop making the Superman character as a weakling dumb idiot... After all he's Superman with super-brain and super-intelligence beyond human... If he's Superman, then portray him as Superman having a master of his super-intelligence and super abilities... And pay attention to details, I mean come-on!!! He's suppose to be faster than bullet, meaning when he's set to catch or stop a plane, hes should be like BANG!!! in split of a 1,000th of a second, he should be there already, and not a freaking 30-seconds or minute struggling to catch a slow flying plane.... And beside when a plane is in the sky Superman shouldn't be struggling in lifting and stopping it while you show him lifting a whole chunk of mountain size Kryptonite... Does that make a any sense at all??? If you're showing Superman lifting a whole chunk of mountain, wouldn't a plane be like an ant in weight to him??? Come-on writers!!!! Please pay attention to details!!! And if you're gonna bring back Lex Luther, please stop making him like a comical clown... Luther is suppose to be a dark, genius evil plotting being... Not a comical clown...

[rinyunzen]
Keep Routh!
Bring Routh Back!!!
He Is Superman!

[Count Boobu]
Before I saw Superman Returns, I was skeptical of Brandon Routh and how he would portray Superman. I even went as far as to be predisposed to dislike the movie because I wanted Tom Welling in the role. Then I actually went to see the movie and I saw the way Brandon carried himself and acted while playing the part. I remember in the theater, when the airplane rescue scene had come to a close and Brandon, as Superman walked in to ask if everyone was all right, I turned to my brother and said: "Holy Sh*t, it's Superman!"
And I still have that feeling to this day every time I watch Superman Returns. So in short, I support Brandon Routh and I so very wish that he returns...again!

[Cool Monty]
Brandon's face is what I imagine when I think of Superman. He embodies the kryptonian in every way, both on and off the screen. He doesn't go out and drink in clubs with sleezy women and then get his face plastered all over the local tabloid. He goes home to his lovely wife and works hard for charities of all sorts. This is the sort of character you can't find in many people anymore. And to lose him would just be a tragedy.
Bring Routh Back!

[Superfan'84]
I say, bring Routh back. I may not have agreed with everything Returns did, but I thought he did a great job as Clark Kent/Superman, easily as good as Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman. I'd be very disappointed if he didn't return (heh) for the sequel.
But then, I'm against major cast changes like this, anyway. We've already got Routh as Superman - who wants to have to get used to a new guy?

[eggie]
I totally support Brandon! He was a great Superman/Clark Kent!!!!

[aqupunk]
Say NO on reboot!!

[Super Mario]
I support Brandon Routh as Superman!
"NO" to a REBOOT!

[Kitty]
Keep Routh on the reboot, he just doesn't need to use contact lenses, and that hair. And change a little the suit.
With a new direction, he will not need to act as Christopher Reeve, he will be his own Superman and Clark Kent.
He also needs to have chemistry with Lois Lane, so I suggest Keri Russell.

[iolani]
Brandon will always be my Superman.

[BostonBean]
It has recently come to my attention that you are thinking of re-booting the Superman franchise since--and I'm paraphrasing here--the 2006 movie did not perform quite to your expectations where the box office is concerned.
Please DO NOT do this.
Superman Returns" was a gem of a movie that transcended the comic book genre by adding a real HUMAN storyline, making the Man of Steel someone people could more easily relate to. Were you to reboot the franchise now you would not only be buying in to the peer pressure and hype of what a comic book movie 'should' be, but you'd also be killing off new characters that can help the franchise grow in the future so that he can remain the beloved hero he has been for the last seventy years.
Please take a moment to step back, STOP looking at the numbers, and consider the fans that enjoyed the long-awaited 2006 film and are greatly anticipating the next installment in the series.
Rebooting this franchise is NOT the answer where Superman is concerned.

[VIPER52USA]
No Routh. No movie.

[andrewbattye375]
I want Routh back, he was a tremendous Superman. He had the classic look with a modern edge, and embodied the same kind of kindness with strength that we found in Reeve. That said, I would like to see him in a reboot more than a direct 'SR' sequel.

[Lisa]
I totally agree with what everyone has said here. Brandon IS Superman, yo. Like others have said, I think that a great deal of what makes him perfect for this character is the kind of person he is. It's not like he went and made the movie, did his job and called it a day. He totally understands what the character means to people and he's carried it over into his own life, like doing all of the charity work and just being an awesome dude.
I just think it would be really lousy of WB to be like, well yeah people liked him, but look we don't want anyone to confuse our new movie with Superman Returns. So, basically, they'd sacrifice the integrity of the character just to make their promotion easier? Quite lame. You totally can't be casual with this character. It's not something that can be tossed around from actor to actor, I think. Which is why I'm going to do everything in my wee power to support Brandon.
I adore Superman Returns, mainly because I looked up at the screen and was like, dude that's Superman. I'll be okay with looking back on Superman Returns as an homage to the Donner films, but only if Brandon remains in the role for whatever films WB makes down the line. If not, I don't want any part of them. I won't see them, I won't buy them. To me, they'd just be Superman films without Superman.
Brandon Routh FTW

[DChero]
I want him back as well. He played Bryan Singer's take on the character very well. He also seems like the kind of stand-up guy off screen to make us proud that he's Superman.

[KellerFan]
please WB do not replace Routh if you decide to reboot. I liked Superman Returns and thought Routh was one of the best parts. he fully embodies the character and deserves to suit up again.
DO NOT REPLACE HIM! PLEASE

[Amparo]
Bring Routh Back!

[Firefox196]
Bring Routh Back! Even people who didn't like Returns liked Brandon. There is no reason he should be discarded!

[Kal-El_of_Krypton]
Bring Routh Back.
How will it bomb if Routh's in it? If anything, people will be glad Routh's back. There are even people that hate SR, but like Routh.
The general audience could be confused, sure, but that doesn't have anything to do with them wanting to see the movie. It didn't stop them from seeing BB and TDK. Many thought that BB was a prequel to Batman and I even heard people, while standing in line for tickets, talking about TDK and thinking it's a remake of Batman.
My point is, the general audience doesn't bother with that kind of stuff. If they like what they see from the trailers, they'll see the movie. If anything, I think having Brandon back, will only help. At least imo.

[Kaimihoshi]
Omg.....They are actually thinking of replacing Brandon Routh....ARE THEY INSANE? Dude! Brandon Routh is the Superman of today's generation! They can't just CHANGE him? DUDE! I totally agree with this petition! BRING ROUTH BACK...FOREVER!!!!! UGH! I am SO gonna write a letter! I pre ordered the SR dvd right when it was first coming out...I've done my part on that, however I'm gonna FLOOD WB's mailbox with pro-Brandon letters if it will keep him in tights!

[calsax]
WB would fools to let such a perfect Superman specimen go. Bring Routh back!!!

[neo1974]
Brandon Is Our Superman... Brandon Is Superman¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

[derfman]
Brandon is Superman. nuff' said.

[Clark Kent 86]
I rarely post on this forum, not becuse I don't like it, because I just don't have the time to post (here or anywhere else). But when I saw this thread I knew I had to stop and voice my support.
BRING ROUTH BACK!!!
Brandon Routh was, IS a superb Superman and it would be a crime to replace him with an actor of lesser quality. Ever since I saw him in SR I became a Brandon Routh fan, watching all the other things he has done. Did anyone see him on Fear Itself? He was great.
I just don't understand why Warner Bros. whould want to replace him, like an earlier poster said, it took 19 years to find him and if he was chosen out of the countless actors that were up for the part than you know he is something special.
The people at Warner Bros. are fools if they think they can find someone better.
KEEP ROUTH!
BRING ROUTH BACK!!

[cpm72586]
There is no doubt in my mind Brandon Routh is Superman. If WB had any brains at all, they would BRING ROUTH BACK!!!!

[Katie]
Bring Routh Back..............A million times over.
I have tried to stay away for a while since the news broke in hopes that when I returned the news would be different. But, unfortunately, I see that it's not.
Brandon deserves better treatment than this. I went into Superman Returns not knowing who in the world Brandon Routh was and was totally stunned and amazed that they had found a young actor who so brilliantly filled the role in every way. I was an instant fan.
I have to go now because thinking about this emotionally exhausts me.

[RouthFan1]
The first thing that entered my mind when I saw early photos and through the film was..."Wow, it IS Superman." I was impressed by his performances in multiple roles and to portray each one extremely well. He had a difficult place to fill and knew everyone would be making comparisons. He was able to embody those iconic roles without being accused of mimmicking or attempting to recreate other famous actor's incarnations of these characters.
That is a fine line that he was able to walk well. I am absolutely shocked and appauled that WB had even considered rebooting the film and the idea of excluding Mr. Routh seems inconcievable. What a horrid mistake.
I become deeply upset when I think about it and continue to hope that WB comes to the understranding and realization that keeping Routh is the best choice they can possibly make.

[bjfan]
I love this thread. Thank you, all of you, for passionately posting your support for Brandon! It's so cool to see how the shock, anger, and disbelief has translated into action! You guys all rock! I will send in emails and postcards, just like you. Brandon totally encapsulated Superman for me and was a wonderful successor to Christopher Reeve. Whenever I think of Superman, I think of Brandon and his version of the character. I don't know HOW the WB will even attempt to darken Superman, but I truly hope they keep Brandon. He is a kind, honorable person, who respects his fans. HE IS SUPERMAN!

[doctor9]
Yes I like Brandon keep him as Superman

[Lady Gwenevere Smith]
Me + No BR = $0 spent.

[treeringralph]
I'm tired of coming back to this point over and over with the character. I'm sick of catching wind of WB's latest stupid plan for Superman, and then feeling like I'm going to throw up for fear that what they intend might actually happen!
I mean, back before Singer was announced as the next movie's director and that his movie would be called "Superman Returns," I was terrified. But then the announcement came, and I not only calmed down and found peace over the whole situation, but I became more and more excited every time Singer spoke on the subject!
It seemed, AT LAST that that terrible feeling that had loomed around every Super pre-production for years on end was solved...CURED. The franchise had landed in very capable and respectful hands.
But here we are AGAIN.
I agree with the folks that say that if SR had any REAL flaws it was that there wasn't enough cheerful, bright Superman. The film's story dictated that there couldn't be though, and that was the intention, to cautiously introduce a brighter, hopeful character into a world of Sin City, Hostel, and whatever else. A world jaded and bitter in its lust for blood and grit.
Introducing an EVEN DARKER Superman is the most half-cocked thing I've heard since news of George Miller's Justice League movie first surfaced!
The story of SR ended with Superman at peace, ready to be full on SUPERMAN, THE MAN OF STEEL once again...no reservations. No distractions. So, the film's darker flaws are gone as SR2 or MOS begins...
And it SHOULD be a SEQUEL, friends. Admit it. The kid could be an interesting plot to follow. Think of adapting elements of Action Comics' "Last Son" and the elements of Brainiac and "New Krypton." Geoff Johns is essentially writing the SR franchise already!
Yes, I said "Admit it." Admit that if they do a sequel to SR and it's jam packed with action and proper characterization, as well as a plot that reveals Jason to be a finite plot element, you'll be there with bells on. And you won't even remember wanting a reboot.
How could such a thing happen?
Singer should tap Geoff Johns as the Superman franchise's David Goyer. He needs a mythology keeper to give him direction. That minor tweak will be the cure for SR2ers and Rebooters alike. I know it.
BRING BACK ROUTH, and the cast...and SINGER. Add Johns as the Super equivalent of Batman's David Goyer.
Have you ever loved doing something, but found yourself not doing it as well as you had originally hoped you would? The natural reaction is to want a second chance. SR WASN'T A FAILURE...
GIVE THE MEN A SECOND CHANCE...all of them: Singer, Routh, Spacey, Huntington...and Superman.
It's not an investment if you run as soon as you're able.
. ............

Um, the J.J. Abrams script had a twist of Lex Luthor being from Krypton. He was also an FBI agent -- much like Fox Mulder, investigating supernatural phenomenon --

I'm not so sure fans would have been as excited about that Superman as Brett Ratner thinks they would have been.

I won't even begin to go into the problems with doing a Superman in Space (or mainly on the planet of Krypton). Relatability for a guy who is nigh invulnerable is already stretched fairly thin on planet Earth. When he's not even fighting for our planet, or for "humanity," the task becomes exponentially more difficult to make audiences care about the character --

-- but then again, making audiences care about a character has never been Brett Ratner's strong suit.

As one of the people who supports the Bring Routh Back campaign (look for my name at the beginning of the reported user comments) I'm happy to see that our little movement is getting the attention it deserves. Brandon Routh needs to know, as does Bryan Singer, as does Warner Brothers themselves, that making Superman gritty and dark like TDK is not the way to go.

All of the concerns about having an emotionally gripping story while having incredible action at the same time can be done in a sequel to Superman Returns. We've already had the first movie to lay the groundwork for the movie universe. Now let's move on and get our X2 of the Superman flicks with a film that pushes Superman's powers to the limit!

Warner Brothers, especially Mr. Jeff Robinov, Mr. Alan Horn, and Mr. John Peters, amongst others, have received the same petition form that Variety has along with something special. You know who we are now, you can't ignore us anymore. ;)

Do the right thing and BRING ROUTH BACK for the sequel!

Wow, It is so great that our campaign has been posted to this site.

We are real and hear us roar. We won't stop till we make sure WB has heard our voices and know that we want Brandon Routh back as Superman. He is the Superman of this generation. A reboot would be a bad mistake.

Fans of Superman deserve another movie to follow SR with more real story to go with the action. Superman is not Batman, he is not dark. He is hope and light and as he soared off into the sky in SR that was what we felt.

Bring Bryan Singer back with Brandon for the best Superman movie ever. Remember what happend to X3.

Anne, have you lost your mind? What was the point of posting this all?

Wow, 300 fans signed a petition (some of which were most likely multiple signings knwoing that group from Bluetights). I'm sure WB is licking their chops at the thought of the $3,000 in ticket sales that they would generate. ($6K is they see it twice!!)

C'mon now. You can't reboot a franchise with the same face of the old one, so all the pining in the world for Routh by this relatively small group of people isnt going to matter. He had his shot amnd failed. WB can't afford to tie their wagons to anything resembling Singer's franchise, or they risk going down the same failed road.

And most fans of Superman I've seen actually dislike Singer's Superman and are excited about the possibility of a reboot that isnt encumbered the foibles he made in Superman Returns. Any fan board you go to is almost an all out war between differeing factions. Singer's factioned the fanbase in many differing pieces, something that was unheard of when Chris Reeve ws in the suit. As a comparison, check out the Batman forums on the Net. Then you'll see what its like when a fanbase is actually behind an actor in a role.

Also in the recent members' poll of "Who should WB cast as Superman in the next movie?" at Superman Homepage ( http://supermanhomepage.com/infusions/member_poll_panel/polls_archive.php ), the largest Superman fan site on the internet ( http://supermanhomepage.com/news.php ), Brandon Routh was voted first choice, gaining 423 votes which was 59% of total vote counts (712) against the second place, Tom Welling, with 177 votes (25%), at the close of the poll on Sep. 15th. This is another clear indication of what the fans want. Our campaign is still receiving new signatures and messages of support on an almost daily basis, but since the announcement of the new plan by WB is expected in next 1-2 weeks, we thought it is a good time to let people in the media know what has been happening as a result of the news reported by WSJ and WB themselves. Please see below for a copy of the petition form that was dispatched by post to Warner Bros. (Mr. Alan Horn, President and COO, Mr. J.Robinov, President, WB Picture Group) and to Mr Jon Peters, Peters Enterprise, who is said to be involved in the next film as a producer, as he did in Superman Returns.

Oh and that bit about Superman Homepage's poll where Brandon Routh took a commanding lead, that was actually apart of "Clark Kent's" report that was sent here to Variety. Don't know why it got cut off, but anyway it should also be known that our campaign is still receiving new signatures and messages of support on an almost daily basis.

This aint just the same people signing up over and over. Hopefully people will see the level of support we've gotten worldwide and know that we're all real people just showing our love for what was a great movie and an equally great actor.

I really appreciate this movement. There are many Superman fans out there that want me to hate Superman Returns. Not only the movie in general, but specifically the script, the costumes, the CG, the physical sets, and especially the actors and their director.

But I can't hate these things. I LOVE Superman Returns, and I think that movie and its director, actors, sets, costumes, etc. gave us exactly what we needed, a re-introduction to Superman after nearly twenty years off the big screen. Done respectfully with style and vision.

I'm glad that there are apparently some other folks out there that feel the same way about Routh, Singer, and SUPERMAN that I do.

Thanks for posting this, Anne. At last, I feel the OTHER point of view has finally been heard.

So...count me in.

Bring Mr. Routh Back, and Bryan Singer too!

As a long time fan of the character, I am a supporter of this campaign as I believe it's a huge mistake not to continue with the story. Bryan Singer has made Superman more real in the movie but most of all I never thought anyone could fill Christopher Reeve's big boots until Brandon Routh, you wont find a more fitting person to carry this legacy, someone who doesn't think of this as a role but who considers it an honour to carry the Superman torch. To me Brandon Routh is the embodiment of what we like about Superman.

Thank you for showing attention to the non-reboot fans, Anne. You're a class act! ^_^

I liked Superman Returns, minor flaws and all. I will now happily support this campaign with these people. I think what is is that the reboot crowd are all whiny and loud, while as the casual fan of the SR stays quiet for the most part. But I really think it's time we stand up and fight for our Superman.

Even if the next movie is not a sequel, I agree with the BRB folks that Routh should stay. He worked with what he was given and did a solid job! You can't blame him for the flaws. KEEP ROUTH!

I will NOT see a new Superman movie without Brandon Routh in it.

If you feel the movie deserves a sequel and keeping Brandon Routh as Superman click on the link below for the BRB campaign :)

http://www.bluetights.net/theplanet/showthread.php?t=28166

It is so hard to find Superman, back in the 70's they screen tested countless actors, and they found Christopher Reeve after months of searching. They repeated the same cycle again in 2004-5, and they found Brandon Routh, who after only one movie proved he was the man for the job. Can you imagine a director stepping in now and recasting the role, making this the 3rd actor to portray the character in less then 10 years? Right now we have 2 actors playing the same role, but Welling has never put on the suit so it doesn't feel out of place for Routh to put it on.

Besides the Superman Homepage poll, there was a another poll where Brandon clearly dominated:
http://www.bluetights.net/theplanet/showthread.php?t=9362

It would be a huge waste for Brandon to be replaced, and hopefully your blog will bring attention to this matter to WB.

I will not support the Superman reboot. Never ever will plan to.

The box office is gonna be fail for good. Just wait and see.

I think/hope a Superman Returns Sequel is in the works. Warner Brothers will be wise on this and will listen the fans' voice. Doing a reboot is a huge nonsense: the Bryan Singer's movie IS the right foundation of more action-oriented movies. Like Batman Begins' sequel, Superman Returns' sequel will reach heights of the Box-Office! No doubt! Bring Back Bryan Singer! Keep Brandon Routh! Don't waste our time: Bring IT on !!

Thank you so much, Anne!

I've been a die hard Superman fan since I was old enough to say the word "Superman." I love it all, from Kirk Alyn to Tom Welling and everything and everyone in between. Short of Christopher Reeve, though, no one has embodied the essence of my favorite hero better than Brandon Routh.

Routh must return! He has captured the hearts of the world and I hope our campaign proves that! I never thought I would be able to truly embrace anyone in the role after Reeve, but Routh truly made me believe a man could fly ... again ... for the first time in almost 20 years! He is Superman for this generation, and like Christopher Reeve before him, it will be another 20 or 30 years before anyone can even dream of taking his place. As long as he is ready, willing and able to fly, let Routh SOAR and everything else will follow suit! ;)

Bring Routh Back, Bring Singer Back and Bring on Man of Steel! I'm already in line to buy my tickets!

KRA! Keep Routh Away!

This is all so ironic. Just a few weeks ago when Anne was on the forefront of breaking the news about WB giving Singer the boot and starting over, the clowns over at BlueTights were lambasting her and calling her a hack, a joke, etc. And those were the nicer names. Now for some unknown reason she posts about their silly little campaign, they all of a sudden lover her and call her a "class act?" It would be comical if it wasnt so sad.

Sure they'll try to support their cause with polls. But the polls are from their little fan sites where they overload the results and skew them beyond belief. It's like going to a NY Yankees fan site and asking if A-Rod or Big Papi should win the MVP Award, and trying to use that as a fair sampling for justifying giving A-Rod the award.

The point is, any time a fan poll is done outside of their little comfort zone, Routh finished behind guys who have been dead for 40 years. For instance the poll that was put up recently on the USA Today website, one of the biggest papers in the USA.

http://blogs.usaweekend.com/whos_news/2008/08/tell-us-who-is.html

In a poll on a site this small band of zealots doesnt control Routh gets destroyed, even by the likes of Dean Cain and George Reeves. And this isnt the first time. Their was an MSNBC poll that came out right after Superman Returns left thaters, when you would think Routh would be the "now" guy and he still lost to Christopher Reeve and the dude from Smallville.

Although I guess all of the fan polls in the world are meaningless since WB has the most important gauge of fan interest in their possession and thats the shameful box office returns the film made. Hence the reason, a sequel never happened, and why Robinov wised up and decided to do a remake. Something Routh will absolutely have no part of. Casting Routh in a rebooted Superman franchise would be suicide for WB, it'd be akin to the Federal Reserve letting the old CEO of AIG take over after he had to bail them out.

Get us a real directo who respects the source material, and an actor for Superman who can actually emote and has charisma. That's all we ask as Superman fans. And any Superman fan worth their salt, knows that the character is far more important than any one actor, and doing him justice is all that matters. These Routh people are losers.

Finally somebody talking some sense.

Yeah let's just forget that the USA Today poll was an environment where people could vote over and over again while at the same time letting their vitrol flourish and their hate spread. It's so easy to criticise when you do nothing creative yourself, but that's the internet for you.

I won't get into any arguments with so called other "fans" who only want to put other people down for something they believe in. There's plenty of message boards and organizations around to join if you truly believe that Superman needs a reboot, come hell (Brett Ratner), or high water (a Krypton that doesn't explode, as in JJ Abrams script).

Oh and btw, Superman Homepage is not just some little fan site, and I doubt Bryan Singer, someone who is in the film business, would bother with a site like Bluetights.net to post his behind the scenes journals for Superman Returns if it was just some little comic book club. ;)

BRING ROUTH BACK

yeah you're right a site like USA Today that gets about 5,000 times the web traffic of a Superman Homepage is unreliable. And FYI you couldn't log out and vote multiple times in the poll. You could only vote multiple times if you used a different computer, and I'd bet just as many of your ilk took part in that as all of the Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Christopher Reeve, and George Reeves fans who voted in the poll and who all finished far out of Routh.

Please expand your world beyond Superhero websites and realize how comparatively minuscule their readership is compared to a major media publication.

Not sure how Singer validates your cause either? As he was just sent packing by WB. His franchise is history, accept it and move on. You and your 300 sig petition look ridiculous. Stop trying to act like you're the consensus of Superman fans. You care about one thing and one thing only, and it ain't Superman, it's Routh. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll have enough gay cameos and direct to video films to keep you occupied for some time.

The difference between you and us is we don't bash people, thats why people are coming out in support of the movie, theres others who feel the same way, we come from countries that believe in freedom of speech, and where I come from we respect that. Everyone has a right to their opinion without the name calling and being ridiculed. Why don't you try it for a change.

Sounds like SR haters want a war against the pro-SR.

Save Brandon Routh!!! PLEASE!!!

Routh sucks? I disagree! :D

It was 300 Spartans who executed one of the fiercest battles ever against the Persian army. Who's to say that 300+ Superman fans can't do the same thing regarding Warner Bros.?

"You care about one thing and one thing only, and it ISN'T Superman, it's Routh."

(Proper grammar is your friend.)

Wrong. We are all Superman fans. We are a combination of lifelong fans, and those who became fans after seeing SR. We just happen to feel very strongly that Brandon is the right choice for Superman.

We may be a small bunch compared to other fanbases, but we have thus proven to be a very vocal and passionate group as well.

To paraphrase Leonidas, "This...is...SUPERMAN!!!"

Superman Returns is one of my all-time favorite movies. I loved the characterization and the drama, and I thought that Brandon Routh made a perfect Superman. Between Routh's acting and Singer's directing they hit upon a version of Superman who was touched by the problems he faced, but who could still offer a gentle and reassuring smile through it all, and a version of Clark who was gawky and self-effacing, but not a caricature. And yes, I loved the introduction of Jason, who binds Superman by blood to Earth and humanity, even as he is a fellow Kryptonian to keep Superman from being alone in the universe. I sincerely hope that we get a sequel to Superman Returns, so we can see Singer elaborate on this vision of Superman, and that we get to see Brandon Routh in the suit many more times in the future.

As a man who's lived long enough to appreciate Superman from George Reeves to Brandon Routh, I can honestly say that I enjoyed Mr. Routh in the role. The movie, itself, was well made and enthralling on a heart-filled level, yet perhaps needed a touch more excitement for the younger viewers to marvel over. Though, I don't think I'll be joining this campaign in full, I will lend my support in this message.

On a personal note, I can't really see why the two sides are fighting each other over this? If Warner Brothers was to restart the franchise with Mr. Routh, but add a new storyline, even director, would that not be a fair compromise? Back in February when I was still paying attention to all the debating, I heard very few complaints about Brandon's performance from the fans, mostly only praise. I believe the reason now I'm hearing so much bitterness is simply because that crowd may be afraid the studios may change their minds. I doubt you have much to worry about, folks.

I've been a Superman fan all of my life, and I was completely blown away with "Superman Returns", it's a beautiful, touching story that has heart. Brandon won me over with his charisma, he captured the essential elements of the kindest, and most noble person on earth. And I am not particularly interested in seeing a re-boot, that re-introduces the character we already got a re-introduction with "Superman Returns".

I implore you to continue with Singer's concept, and move on to a more epical, action packed franchise, that we've been promised.

BRANDON is SUPERMAN!!!! please warner, keep brandon!!!!!

I loved Superman Returns. That was the first Superman film I really enjoyed, and I am old enough to remember STM and other Superman films that followed.
I want Brandon Routh to return as Superman in a next film. Not only he was great as Superman, his portrayal of Clark Kent was exceptional.

I really do not understand why WB has to deny the film which did achieve a decent success. Maybe it wasn't a mega-success as they had wished or didn't earn them as much money as they hoped, but it was far from 'a failure'.
If 're-introducing the character' really means 'a complete reboot' as many people are interpreting, it looks like a very dangerous gamble WB is taking.
You can reboot a complete failure after a couple of years, maybe, but not with a film like SR which won several awards and praise by many critics areound the world.

I want a sequel to Superman Returns, and with Brandon Routh as Superman/Clark Kent in it.

Please, Mr.Robinov, wake up!!!

Brandon made a perfect Clark Kent and Superman. I'm sure Hollywood knows how hard it is to cast someone who can do both characters justice. That's why it's taken so long to get Superman off the ground before SR came around. All these fanboys wanting a beefed up superman -- wtf? Superman doesn't need to be muscled up -- the guy is suppose to be powerful without looking like a wrestler. The actor needs to make the audience believe that Clark Kent and Superman are two totally different people. Do you know how hard that is with just glasses as a disguise? Brandon pulled it off perfectly. Brian Singer made the right decision continuing the character that Chris Reeve made because it is so hard to portray the Clark Kent persona on screen. Whoever the director they choose I pray he/she makes the right decision on whoever he/she casts. I have a feeling this reintro is gonna be hard to pull off and will be stuck in development hell for a very long time. That's why I'm not a supporter of the reboot. Bring on the sequel with Bryan and Brandon.

Anne

Let me add my voice to those calling for a completely NEW CAST and Director.

I do NOT want to see Brandon Routh back.

If anything sums up all the criticisms that's been leveled at Singer's film, its that it FAILED to reintroduce Superman to this generation.

Brandon Routh brought absolutely nothing fresh to the role. The most you can say about his performance is that he tried to imitate the late Christopher Reeve.

Isn't that the equivalent of what a Elvis impersonator does?

From Kirk Alyn to George Reeves and Christopher Reeve to Tom Welling, these actors brought a fresh take to the role. The lone exception is Brandon Routh. He brought nothing new to the table.

Visually, Routh is too lean and lanky for the part. A string bean. As an actor, he's too wooden.

Financially speaking, Warner should distance the restart of the franchise as far from Superman Returns as possible. The idea is for the studio to reap the highest profits possible. It has to attempt to mend the divide in the fan base, and appeal to as broad an audience as possible. The restart has to be a revitalized and fresh take on Superman.

Retaining Routh runs counter to that goal. Singer's directorial decision to attempt to turn Routh into a Reeve clone was a HUGE blunder.

Bad word of mouth is what stifled Superman Returns domestic box office. Keeping Routh maintains ties between the reboot and Singer's film.

I say go with a different actor in the role.

Jerry Newingham
http://www.glasshousepresents.com/Destiny%27s%20Choice_by_Jerry_Newingham.htm

I was one of the many fans that was first introduced to Superman through Brandon. I was not born when Superman: The Movie and its sequels were made and I only vaguely remember seeing Lois and Clark on the TV in the 90's; but even then i was still very young. So, as a relatively new fan of the Man of Steel I can whole heartedly say that I agree with all those that say Mr Routh played a fantastic Superman.

As I just said, Superman Returns was my first experience of the character and I had not the slightest clue of what he was previously like therefore, I went into the cinema not knowing what to expect at all. I thought Brandon's performance was outstanding and he certainly made a fan out of me. So for that - Bring Routh Back!

As for Singer, his take on Superman was different yes, but poor...? no. Personally i loved it and would happily pay to see more. I just hope Warner Bros. agree.

I don't want to see a reboot and/or a recast... if it ain't broke, don't break it!

This article is incredibly biased. It gives the impression that it's almost unanimous among Superman fans that we want to see a sequel to [i]Superman Returns[/i]. NOT SO!!!

[i]Superman Returns[/i] was awful. They backed themselves into a corner with the son: a lame stunt that has completely ruined any future the series might have had.

Brandon Routh was completely mediocre. It's sad so many people are buying into the hype.

Most importantly, people are relying on an unbelievably speculative article on which to base their opinions. The article put words into Robinov's mouth, and nobody... NOBODY has been able to define "dark." "We're going to go dark to the extent the characters allow it" should tell people NOT to expect a [i]Dark Knight[/i] clone, and being "dark" is hardly the only reason it was a success.

REBOOT, Warners, don't listen to the whiny Singer-puppets. Reboot.

Making a darker Superman would be making a film that was not faithful to the spirit of the character. I would like to see Brandon Routh grow into the role in Singer's second effort, put to the test with a supervillain, give the movie a sequel WB, not all the general public are fanboys, we just want good escapism action.

I defy anyone who insists the only reason Singer included a few homage to previous Superman films in SR was because of lack of his creativity and who insists the only thing Routh did in the film was mimicking Reeve. You need to have a certain level of intelligence to understand why they did it that way and be able to see and take in more than what your eyes can allow you to see, visually.
If you could not understand that and could not see it, I' sorry to say but the fault is not with the film.

Superman Returns has a lot more depth and meaning than average 'superhero' films that would only appeal to young viewers or comic-geeks who only want to see action-packed, muscle-bound 'entertainment' films with no substance. And that's why SR attracted so many people who normally would not see and enjoy any film of that genre and broght them into Superman fandom as well as it introduced Superman to a new generation of Superman fans who didn't see the previous film in real time.

If I want to see a reboot, I will not said "go forward..."

To the people at WB, Brandon Routh is the PERFECT Superman. Now that he's that much older- he's perfect. Just beef him up a little. Don't need a Reboot, just AN ACTION PACKED SEQUEL. But if you insist on a sequel, you NEED Brandon Routh. He's got wholesome farm-boy thing about him. Even people who didn't like superman returns still really liked Brandon Routh. Even critics really liked him. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE A PERFECTLY GOOD CASTING OF SUPERMAN. I HEARD PEOPLE'S IDEAS ON WHO COULD BE SUPERMAN-HORRIBLE. AND PLEASE KEEP THE SAME MUSICAL SCORE. BRING ROUTH BACK !! BRING ROUTH BACK !! BRING ROUTH BACK !!

Hi, my name is Hill Castelo Branco and I am from Sao Luis – Ma - Country: Brazil
Well, I’d never be so involved with the production of a movie before, but when I knew that WB will make a reboot of the Superman film, I can’t keep myself out of this, so I decide do send a message:
I think that the most intelligent thing that WB will do after producing Batman TDK is to keep Brandon Routh as Superman. WB, remember, you are making this movies for US, the fans, so you have to listen to us when we say: KEEP BRANDON ROUTH as Superman, and SINGER as the director. It wouldn’t be intelligent to disappoint us. Some people liked Superman Returns and other don’t, but everyone agrees in one point: BRANDON ROUTH IS SUPERMAN !!!!! Please bring Routh back and give us the best Superman movie ever !!!!!
One more thing: I am speaking in the name of a huge number of brazilian fans!!!

TO: warner bros exec.
PLEASE !!!!
Bring Brandon Routh Back.
I totally agree on Revamping the superman franchise. Superman having a child did not make sense. We need to do start Superman from scratch. more like the superman animated series that showed Krypton as a futuristic world. kind of like star wars did with there worlds and do the story revolving around braniac and him being the cause of Krypton being distroyed and then having Brandon Routh as Superman. He is the best person to potray superman. what everyone is looking for is not just the story , but the special effects is what will make the movie, "Watch Michael Bay's Transformers" then based on that, do Superman. I liked Superman Returns and it gave me a good sense of nostalgia becuase for me, i believe that it closed the chapter with Superman 2. Now, if you want to continue the story. i definately think that we can introduce Doomsday and have him duke it out with superman and also have Darkseid and then after an epic fight in Metropolis, then have the green Lantern show up to save superman..
that will be a great sequel to superman returns. but if we do the revamp, then still keep Brandon Routh. He just needs to have more dialogue in the movie, in superman returns. he barely spoke, it was more about lex luthor than superman.
also the special effects of superman was horrible. why did brian singer use that cheap special effects company. with all the money that was spent you would think that he would have used Industrial Light and Magic. also if I was Warner Bros. i would Ask Brian Singer to show me a reciept on everything that was spent to make the movie becuase the only big scene that i enjoyed was the plane rescue and that also wasn't all that great, Once again I go back to Superman the animated series. why in the movie could they not imitate the animated series. In the animated series, the plane hit some buldings and then landed in the part and you see superman flying by the buildings and getting in front of the plane and getting smashed with all the trees until the plane made a complete stop. Superman could have been so much better. also for the music of superman. Hanz Zimmers scores are EPIC.. please bring brandon routh back. i have dozens of friends that loved his work and cannot picture another actor to be superman.

I totally agree with this!!! BRING ROUTH BACK!!! also... i want to add that WB will be wasting more money rebooting the franchise. and also... I agree with one thing BRANDON IS SUPERMAN!!! (same with everyone ) and sides... i like Singer's film more than Ratner's or Abrams's so....and sides Routh is a good Superman!! so BRING HIM BACK!!!

Fist of all: thank you very much, Anne, for giving us Superman Returns and Brandon Routh fans the wonderful opportunity to voice our opinions on what we really want for our favorite superhero Superman. God bless you!

Secondly, like everybody else, I also WANT BRANDON ROUTH BACK to reprise his role of Superman in the next Superman film. Why? Because HE IS SUPERMAN. HE IS IT. Bryan Singer found the right guy for the job. And the vast majority of people, including the critics, agree on this: Brandon Routh makes a wonderful Superman and Clark Kent in every way, in looks, presence, and even in manner. He is Superman on and off the screen, and that's so hard to find nowdays in these so jaded times. LISTEN WB, Brandon WAS A HIT IN THE ROLE, he perfectly inhabits the character, that's why we CAN'T imagine anyone else in those blue tights. And if you make the huge mistake of leaving him out of the next film, many people will not support the next film, including me.

BRING ROUTH BACK, WB!!

Here are some quotes from some of the professional film critics who also enjoyed and praised Routh in the role:

Hollywood Reporter:
”This high-wire act would have gone for naught if Routh had not so capably filled the Man of Steel's costume. Like Reeve, he is just right physically, looking at times like the old comic book drawings of Superman.”

Rolling Stone:
”At first, his features seem unformed, like an artist's rough sketch. But there's a glint of mischief in his eyes that also hints at depths of sadness. Routh has what it takes to reinvent Superman for a new generation…That's why Superman returns with a bang. Singer tarnishes his hero's halo with just enough sexual longing and self-doubt to make him riveting and relatable. That "S" on his suit has a whole new meaning: He's a Soul man.”

LA Weekly:
”Superman Returns is a lush and enthralling piece of adventure storytelling that’s both revisionist and reverential, putting a timely spin on a timeless character without violating his primal appeal...Routh projects a sense of innate, unassailable decency."

Empire:
"….But the greatest victory is Brandon Routh. The resemblance between Routh and Christopher Reeve is uncanny (when he first turns around as Clark Kent, you’d swear it was 1978) and, while proving every bit as wholesomely heroic, Routh even adds his own melancholic touch."

Variety:
”…most grandly conceived and sensitively drawn Superman saga. Sure to rate with aficionados alongside "Spider-Man 2" and, for many, "Batman Begins" on the short list of best superhero spectaculars…it's quite sincere, with an artistic elegance and a genuine emotional investment in the material that creates renewed engagement in these long-familiar characters...One can praise newcomer Routh very highly indeed simply by saying that he carries this giant film with apparent effortlessness. Thesp possesses a winning, appealing personality that nicely complements his rangy, black-haired, blue-eyed good looks.”

Newsweek:
[Routh] "effortlessly lays claim to the iconic role… Next to Singer's champagne, most recent superhero adventure movies are barely sparkling cider”.

And Brandon also won important fan awards for his role of Superman, such as BEST NEWCOMER by Empire Readers Awards 2007, where many thousands of people voted for him: http://www.empireonline.com/awards/malenewcomer.asp

Please, WB, gives us our sequel! Superman Returns is a wonderful film, it is just the beginning of the story, not all that Bryan Singer is capable of. There is so much potential in this epic and compelling story for even better and more exciting films that surely will do much better at the BO. WAKE UP, WB! Superman Returns wasn't a failure. It was a modest hit just like Batman Begins was. There is room for improvement. SUPERMAN DOESN'T NEED A REBOOT, IT ONLY NEEDS A POWERFUL AND MORE THREATENING SUPERVILLAIN TO FIGHT AND MORE ACTION! That's all, can't you see it?

But most of all: KEEP BRANDON ROUTH AS SUPES, please.

Brandon Routh should be cast as Superman in the next film.
He was equally great as Clark Kent & Superman.
BRING BACK ROUTH.

Keep Brett Ratner away from this franchise please.
I find him to be an unbelievable hack.
Let him continue to direct meaningless music videos.

BRB Bring Routh Back! He IS Superman. Superman Returns is a launching pad for Bryan Singers sequel. Singer must be allowed to finish his vision and film, Superman The Man of Steel!

WB must to keep Brandon. i dont care if it'll be a rebooted dark superman,or SR2,Brandon MUST be supe.

J. Byrd said,
"On a personal note, I can't really see why the two sides are fighting each other over this? If Warner Brothers was to restart the franchise with Mr. Routh, but add a new storyline, even director, would that not be a fair compromise?"

I don't know who you are, but just speaking for myself, I just really want Brandon Routh to return in the role of Superman in whatever Superman movie we get next. Why? Because he makes a excellent Superman/Clark. He was such inspired casting, plus he is such a nice guy, like Superman. And he loves being Superman! He definitely deserves to return. He should Not be punished. But if WB decided to make a sequel, that'd be even better for me and many, many other people.

I waited 20 years for Superman to come back and Routh's Superman was much more than anything I had been anticipating.
I want Routh back as Superman.
I want Singer back to tell us the story after Superman Returns.
Don't reboot. Give us a sequel.

I'll post here an e-mail message I have send to the address of Mr. Robinov from WB, since I can't put it in better words than I already have.

Quote:

Dear Mr. Robinov,

I heard of your plans to reboot the Superman movie franchise, what I can understand, since SUPERMAN RETURNS split the major audience and the fanbase alike.

But I want you to consider bringing Brandon Routh back as the Man of Steel. Whatever was wrong with SR, it certainly was not Routh's fault. He was a great Superman and a great Clark Kent, and I am confident that he will be awesome again, maybe even more so in a reboot, considering his age. It was a hard and long casting process to finally get Routh, who was more of Superman than any other actor considered for the role, and I doubt that you will be able to find an actor more (or even equally) suitable for it.

I know that many people, especially on the internet, would favor SMALLVILLE's Tom Welling for the title role in the new Superman movie. However, I think these people are mislead by Welling's great portrayal of a young Clark Kent. While he is a great actor in this role, he would not fit as Superman, and if it's only for his voice. Also, I did not hear anything about him changing his position of not wanting to be the cinematic Superman, but I guess that you are closer to the source.

I just want you to understand what the right casting of this character means to me and many other fans of Superman. He is one of the most difficulte characters to cast, and there are so many ways to do it wrong. Brandon Routh was the right casting, not just for SUPERMAN RETURNS, but for Superman in general.

I know it is highly unlikely for you, Mr. Robinov, to even read this message. I guess that messages to this e-mail address are filtered by an assistant of yours, what I understand, as someone in your possition naturally receives a huge number of messages on a daily basis, and you have other duties to attend to. But I hope that you receive the information that many fans of Superman still hold on Mr. Routh as our generation's Superman. It's a slight hope, but hope is what Superman embodies, so what kind of fan would I be if I would just resign on this matter.

And since you are unlikely to read this message anyway, I hereby take the liberty of recommending the SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT series by Mark Waid and Leinel Francis Yu as the basis for the coming Superman movie. It is contemporary, touching on matters of today's society while still holding on the ideas that make Superman the greatest character of them all.
Well, I'm certainly not a hardliner on this matter, though. As long as it's still Superman and not just a new character who is named Superman, I'm all for it.

Thank you for your attention, whoever is reading this (Mr. Robinov or an assistant of his, or an assistant of an assistant of his).

Sincerely
Kai Brauns

Tom Welling for Superman in the new Superman Movie!!!!!

Dear Daniela,
Do you ever listen to what Welling says? He does not want to be Superman. How many times does he have to repeat the same thing again and again until someone like you understands why he doesn't want to.
Can't you see what he wants to and needs to do to save his career as an actor is try to avoid being type-cast? He has hardly ever established his reputation outside Smallville fandom. The last thing he wants to do is yet another role that would give people the impression that he can only do Superman/Smallville related thing, or his future career as an actor will be totally dead.

Superman Returns made me a Superman fan, please let Brandon Routh continue in the role!!!!!!
