IGN debuts the red-band trailer for Kevin Smith's "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and it looks like filthy fun. Craig Robinson looks ready to step up here and Traci Lords milks a few laughs as a naughty vixen named Bubbles with a peculiar talent.
Rope of Silicon has the first picture (I've seen) of Emile Hirsch in Gus Van Sant's "Milk." The film's supporting awards buzz has centered on Harvey Milk's lover (James Franco) and killer (Josh Brolin) but Hirsch looks completely unrecognizable here and after being robbed last year for his incredible performance in "Into the Wild," the Academy could try and make it up to him, although Brolin was also unfairly ignored last year, so who knows?
In Contention's Brian Kinsley takes a look at Joe Penhall's script for "The Road" in the site's latest Page to Screen column. Another Cormac McCarthy adaptation, it wouldn't surprise me to hear Penhall's name on Oscar Nomination morning.
IC's Kris Tapley delves into this year's crowded Best Actress race. He does a great job looking at the various contenders (I've got my eye on Laura Linney in "The Other Man") but he neglects to mention one mega-movie that seems to have eluded awards consideration... "Sex and the City." That's right. As a fan of the HBO show I was predisposed to enjoy the feature film but I was surprised by just how much I relished the performances. Yes Kim Catrall was the best but Sarah Jessica Parker was no slouch herself. Just saying, you can't ignore the SATC phenomenom.
AICN has posted a 'super' cool G4 interview with Mark Millar ("Wanted") who reveals he may be writing the next "Superman" movie/trilogy.
Box Office Mojo has been keeping track of all these changing release dates, including two noteworthy moves that have flown under the radar. Rian Johnson's "The Brothers Bloom" (which I am rooting for, contrary to previous postings) will now bow in limited release Dec. 19 (to be eligible for awards) before opening wider in January. Meanwhile, Tom Tykwer's "The International," starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts, has moved into the Feb. 13 slot recently vacated by "Valkyrie," giving me something to do on Valentine's Day.
The Toronto Star's Peter Howell has posted a review of Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker," which follows a fearless bomb squad (Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie) in Iraq. While it will probably meet the same cruel fate as other superior Iraq War films ("In the Valley of Elah, "Grace is Gone"), I'm still really looking forward to it.
And finally, remember my little rant against floating head posters a few weeks ago in an item about the "My Best Friend's Girl" poster? Well Funny or Die has gone and posted a video about the guy who specializes in designing those kinds of posters. Funny stuff.
