[Posted by Jeff Sneider] Sad news this week as it seems legendary artist Drew Struzan has retired to spend more time with his family. That's good for the Struzan clan, but bad for movie theater walls, which will now be decorated with even more floating head posters instead of the bold, original works Struzan gave life to. The man was responsible for some of the greatest movie posters of all time (including "The Goonies" and "Big Trouble in Little China" and his work will be missed.
Jeff Wells reports that Fernando Mereilles' "Blindness" has dropped Danny Glover's voice-over narration. I haven't seen the film yet so I can't speak to whether this will help it or hurt it but Wells seems in favor of the decision so I'll "blindly" jump on that bandwagon, although hopefully the DVD will include an alternate cut that restores it.
Michael Cera has told the National Post that he's against the idea of an "Arrested Development" movie. As a fan of the show, I admit it would be cool to see the Bluth family back together again, but I have to confess that I'm with George Michael on this one. I just don't see a feature film capturing the frenetic energy of the show and the magic of the cast's chemistry. Let's leave those fond memories alone.
CinemaBlend reports that Tom Cruise will voice the villain of DreamWorks' "Shrek Goes Fourth." Cruise has never voiced an animated character before so this could be cool, but I wish he'd held out for an original animated film. The last Shrek sequel was a joyless cashgrab and the once-lovable character is in danger of wearing out his welcome. Gingerbread Man, however, will never go stale.
Coming Soon's Ed Douglas passes along word straight from Guy Ritchie that rising star Mark Strong has been cast in "Sherlock Holmes." Strong recently starred in "Babylon A.D." and will next be seen in Ritchie's "RocknRolla" and the Viggo Mortensen Nazi drama "Good."
JoBlo's always reliable Ten Spot runs down the list of Jim Law's Favorite Movie Sluts. It's great seeing Little Bill's Wife from "Boogie Nights" on there but the most inspired choice is definitely Jenny from "Forrest Gump."
And finally, TimeOut has a very fun A-Z list of classic cinematic cameos. Check out the whole list because naturally, they save the best for last... Zed (Peter Greene) from "Pulp Fiction."
