Holy Matrimony
Chris Rock drew a high caliber crowd to Boulevard 3 Wednesday night for the premiere of "I Think I Love My Wife."
Film's Gina Torres, Kerry Washington, Steve Buscemi and Michael Kenneth Williams turned out for the festivities along with Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Laurence Fishburne, David Spade and Mary J. Blige.
At first glance, the party appeared as divided as Rock's conflicted on-screen character with a soft fire and candle lit water fountains filled with rose petals greeting guests as they arrived but once inside the tranquil façade gave way to a party DJ, red lighting and three hooter-esque dancing girls.
Yet, somehow it all flowed seamlessly together. Comedy centers on Rock’s character struggling between the security, comfort and boredom of marriage and a chance at that one girl he thought he could never have.
While film has a very real feel, drawing big laughs from the couples in the crowd, Rock admits, “It's not my marriage. It's about a lot of marriages and "Everybody Hates Chris” is about a lot of people's childhoods. My wife can do something or a friend can do something and I'll think it’s funny but unless five or six people do the exact same thing it won't end up in the script. Because if it’s just me, it won't work,” explains Rock. Next up for the multi-hyphenate? “I actually have more directing offers than acting offers – I don't know if that's good," he says. "I'll probably go on tour. I've worked for Searchlight, now I got to go make some money.” (L. Repstad)
