On Monday morning, WGA member Jonathan Fernandez was bursting with pride over "doing laps" -- the laps of Teamster truck drivers around outside Paramount Studios, which they preferred to crossing WGA picket lines.
Fernandez, whose credits include "Star Trek Enterprise," estimated that a dozen trucks were turned away during his four-hour shift as a strike captain, which began at 6 a.m.
"We had the line up and running at 5:45 a.m.," he said. "And the drivers that we talked with were up on what what this is about. They realize that if we don't get residuals for all the work on the Internet, they won't get them for their pension and health plan."
Fernandez, a 10-year WGA member, said his biggest takeaway from his first week of picketing has been a sense of unity among those walking the line. Monday's participants included Michael Tolkin ("The Player"), John August ("Charlie and the Chocolate Factory") and WGA West board member Nancy De Los Santos.
After four hours of walking, De Los Santos said, "I'm not tired at all."
